Henna-Inspired Wedding Cake

Here is the wedding cake that I did for my sister's friends Annabelle and Darrin. The top is a henna-inspired pattern that Darrin designed (and you guys know how I love henna patterns!) and the bottom side says "Eternal Dance of Joy" in Sanskrit (again, Darrin-inspired). It was a hazelnut cake with chocolate ganache filling and Frangelico buttercream.

And besides that I did some caterings with friends and some holiday presents for some firms... It was and is ok... I am now being hired as product developer for a firm doing cookies and pastries and they want me to come up with different stuff they they can market. I have been baking and teaching and also most of my time was spent farming..

i heart the holidays & my new job :)

Hey ladies! I just thought I'd share some of the things I've been doing at work this holiday season!
Im working at an adorable small bakery called Batter Bakery in San Francisco. We bake out of a communal kitchen we share with a few other chefs, an art gallery, cafe, and a pop-up restaurant on the weekends, Saison. We also have a retail kiosk in the financial district.
We were working almost non-stop all last week and I'm sure we made over a thousand holiday shortbread cookies- it was crazy!
Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season- and for those of you in far away places, SF is still calling your names ;)
love & miss!

I'm still baking...

So even though the lab is keeping me busy these days I am still finding time to bake! I recently did a wedding cake for some friends of David. They got cupcakes from another caterer but had me do a small cake so they'd have something to cut. Their cake toppers were wooden figures of a deer and a donkey, and they wanted the cake decorated like a meadow in which the deer and donkey were standing.

New York!

Hello sweet ladies! Here are some pictures of my trip to New York. It was so fun to see Sylvia and Z (and John too of course). My culinary highlights were:
1) The compost cookie at Milk. It was full of pretzels, potato chips, butterscotch chips, and I don't know what else but it was good. It inspired me to make some random cookies of my own so today I made a chocolate cookie filled with 2 kinds of chocolate chips, chocolate-covered almonds, and crushed up italian cookies, a vanilla cookie filled with candied pineapple, coconut, corn flakes, and milk chocolate chips, and another vanilla cookie filled with sesame crackers and chocolate chips. They sound a bit strange but were actually really good!
2) Treats from the Japanese pastry shop Minamoto Kichoan. It is near Rockefeller Center and if you haven't been yet, definitely check it out. It is immaculate.
3) Cupcakes from Sweet Revenge. To be honest, they were too sweet for me. The name is true...the spirits of all the sweets I've eaten were taking revenge on me when I ate these cupcakes because I felt sick afterwards. I loved the papers they used though (see picture).
